For this episode of EV Rider we’re on our way to Amelia Island in Nassau County, which is the northern-most county in Florida.
Amelia Island, which includes Fernandina Beach, has way too many attractions to jam into just one episode so today we’re just going to concentrate on one scenic road that runs along a five-mile stretch of the island.
Amelia Island Parkway is among the prettiest rides in Florida with a full canopy of trees throughout a good portion of the parkway.
It’s filled with upper-class neighborhoods, condos, resorts and golf clubs.
The parkway is probably best known as the home of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, which is held each year – usually in March – at the Ritz-Carlton.
Traveling the length of the parkway only takes about 15 minutes or so. The prettiest stretch runs from the Buccaneer Trail, which is another lovely road, to A1A, which runs all the way down to Key West.
Locals know the parkway is also home to one of the nicest public stretches of beach in Nassau County. The public park, includes free parking and a portable restroom. It’s located at 104 Beech Street on Amelia Beach.
Riders can also exit the parkway to explore American Beach.
The historic community played a significant role in the area’s African American history. During the Jim Crow era it was a haven for Black Americans.
If you’re thinking about a visit to Fernandina Beach or Amelia Island, the parkway is worth a few minutes of time to soak in its beauty.
