First Look: Jaguar Type 00 EV Concept Debuts

Jaguar's EV Future Revealed In Miami

Legendary British brand Jaguar, which is now owned by India’s Tata Motors, has decided it’s time to throw out its existing playbook and try something entirely new by debuting its Type 00 concept EV.

In a bold move, Jaguar is dumping its entire line of current vehicles in favor of a rebranding that will make it a purely EV high-end luxury marque.

The Type 00 concept debuted at Miami Art Week and points the way forward for Jaguar’s new styling and branding direction.

Although it’s a concept, Jaguar Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern is making it clear a good bit of its DNA will make production. “Those of you who know me know I don’t believe in concepts unless they become a reality,” McGovern said in Miami Monday night.

The new Jaguar marketing campaign tagline is “copy nothing,” and it’s certainly achieved that with the Type 00.

The tagline was taken from Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons.

In a nod to its past, the Type 00’s long hood, or as the British would say, bonnet, harkens back to the 1961 through ‘74 E-Type, which is arguably Jaguar’s most iconic car.

Although Jaguar is showing off a two-door its first production EV riding on its new Jaguar Electric Architecture will be a four-door GT. That car will be revealed in late 2025 and built in the UK.

That means at some point Jaguar dealers will be without new cars to sell for a while until the new lineup enters production.

The four-door GT EV is expected to be unveiled in late 2025 and be the first new EV to enter production. It will presumably look quite a bit like the Type 00 and have a range of up to 430 miles and be able to add up to 200 miles of range with just 15 minutes of charging. McGovern said the Type 00 has 1,000 horsepower.

The Type 00 was unveiled in two colors: London Blue, which signifies its British heritage, and Miami Pink; which signifies the art deco style, pastel colors and the vibrant artistic vibe the Florida city is known for.

“Its long bonnet doesn’t confirm to electric vehicle design and why should it? Look at its uncompromised modern surfaces, dramatic intersections and flawless details,” McGovern said.

That philosophy extends out back where there is no rear window. Instead, it has what  Jaguar calls a Clearsight display that replaces the traditional rear-view mirror to improve overall visibility.

The interior of the two-seater features floating seats and materials that include brass, alabaster rock and travertine stone.

The driver and passenger each have large screens that glide up from the dashboard.

So what do you think of the Type 00 and Jaguars new styling direction? Should Jaguar put it into production as is? Post your opinion in the comments section of this video on YouTube.
