While the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is renowned for its world-class displays of classic automobiles, it’s also become a prime showcase for automakers to show off their most stunning future EV models. 

A case in point is the Polestar 6 Roadster, which is scheduled to go into production in 2026. 

The first 500 production cars will be called the Polestar 6 LA Concept edition. 

Polestar, which is the EV offshoot of Volvo, decided to put the 2+2 roadster into production after the positive reception given to its O₂ concept, which looks nearly identical to the Polestar 6. 

The LA Concept launch edition cars will carry a price tag of about $200,000, according to Polestar spokesman John Quinn. 

“Those are currently all sold out through reservations. The good thing though is the Polestar 6 will actually go into a full production run, limited production, but it will be a full production run of the car after the first 500 are produced.” 

Pricing for the regular production models hasn’t been announced yet but Quinn says there will be a range of price points, likely meaning a base model will be more affordable than the LA Concept launch editions. 

As you would expect for a car in that price range, performance will be strong. 

“We’re still in development making sure the car is as good as possible for 2026, when we’re going to go into production. Horsepower is going to be about 884, so it’s going to be pretty quick in a straight line. 0-60 (mph) we’re saying in about 3 seconds. Of course we’re going to optimize that as best we can,” said Quinn. Quinn says handling will really be what sets the roadster apart. 

“From our perspective at Polestar, our focus isn’t really on straight line acceleration, of course it will be fast. We really focus on lateral dynamics as a company. There will be some really interesting suspension componentry.” 

Right now, the estimated range for the Polestar 6 is 300 miles but Quinn says Polestar expects battery tech to improve by the time the roadster launches so that number may increase. 

The O₂ concept featured a retractable hardtop. While Quinn couldn’t speak to the specifics of the Polestar 6 top material or operation, Polestar did say on its website in August that the production version would feature a retractable hardtop so it’s a good bet that Polestar 6’s top up silhouette will be similar to the O₂’s. 

One feature that won’t be making production is the autonomous drone featured in the O₂ that would automatically shoot cinematic videos of drives along the countryside.
